Hurricane Helene Tests the Property and Our Resolve

The day Hurricane Helene swept through, it brought a storm we won’t soon forget. The peaceful creek on the property transformed into roaring rapids, and the winds left a trail of fallen trees across the land. To make matters worse, we discovered leaks in the roof, adding to the growing list of challenges we face with the house.

Through it all, Kyra, my spirited Rottweiler, found the storm more exciting than troubling. Water is her absolute favorite, and it was tough to keep her safely away from the rushing creek. Her boundless energy and love for the outdoors served as a reminder to find joy, even in the chaos.

After ensuring the property was secure, Kyra and I loaded into the Jeep and headed toward Asheville to help others impacted by the storm. The damage to our own property was a challenge, but lending a hand to those in need reminded me of the resilience and community spirit that inspire the mission of Legacy Paws Rescue. Even in the face of adversity, we remain focused on building something beautiful—a sanctuary for animals and a beacon of hope for all.
